Toronto to host annual GFOA Conference in 2016
As his first act as President of the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA), Len Brittain, City of Toronto's Director of Corporate Finance, has announced that Toronto will host the association's annual international conference being held May 22-25, 2016.

Brittain became the association's president at its annual conference in Atlanta, Georgia in June 2010. The annual GFOA Conference draws thousands of public finance professionals from across Canada and the United States and from around the world. Attendees benefit from workshops, panel discussions, lectures and discussion groups focusing on recent updates and best practices in government finance.

Brittain has served on the GFOA Executive Board since 2006. He also is the former co-chair of the GFOA's Committee on Canadian Issues and the former co-chair of the committee’s Professional Development Task Force. He was elected president by his peers on account of his outstanding leadership ability and stature as a public finance professional. Brittain’s leadership will help the GFOA continuously raise the bar of the government finance profession. This prestigious position has been previously held by only nine Canadians in the association's 104 year history prior to Brittain's election.

"GFOA's annual meetings allow opportunities for candid conversations about problems and solutions," said Len Brittain. "We are not competitors, but colleagues. We come together so we can benefit from discussions about the best practices in government finance."

"I am proud and privileged to welcome the GFOA conference to Toronto," said Mayor David Miller. "I hope that the delegates enjoy our vibrant city and all that it offers during their stay."
