Statement - Mayor Miller pleased with strong YES vote from U of T Scarborough

"I'm incredibly pleased with the strong YES vote and want to thank
all those who cast ballots over the last several days. By a margin of
almost two to one, the students at UTSC have ensured that this
state-of-the-art facility will be built and will become an important
part of the legacy of the 2015 Pan Am Games. The students and the
community in Scarborough have been vastly underserved in athletic
facilities for too long and that is going to change. UTSC Students
and Torontonians alike all deserve a world-class aquatic facility.
"The Pan Am Aquatic Centre/CSIO facility will be a boon for
community-based aquatic groups and provide training and competition
opportunities for Toronto's aquatic athletes. This centre
single-handedly doubles the number of 50 metre pools in Toronto and
is consistent with the City's long-term pools strategy.
"Locating the facility at U of T - Scarborough also strengthens the
case for moving ahead in a timely manner with the Scarborough Malvern LRT."

**NB - Mayor Miller is not available for interviews or further comment today.
