Free forum on the Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP)

There will be a free forum on the Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP) for
people receiving ODSP, people who are applying for ODSP, family members and
service providers on Thursday, May 26, 2005 from 1 to 4 p.m. This event will be
held at the Knox Presbyterian Church, located at 4156 Sheppard Ave. E.
(Sheppard and Midland).

This forum is meant to help people understand what ODSP is all about, what are
the “hidden benefits”, how to advocate for clients or family members and how to
deal with the stress that ODSP can cause people. A panel, which includes a
person receiving ODSP, legal experts and agency staff, will be discussing these
issues. The panel may help people better understand ODSP and how to deal with
the ODSP office. The sponsoring groups also hope to get people to take action
on making ODSP more responsive and respectful to the people that are suppose to
benefit from it.

This event is sponsored by the Ethno-Racial People with Disabilities Coalition
(ERDCO), Agincourt Community Services, Somaliland Women’s Organization,
Community Resource Connections, Scarborough Community Legal Services and West
Scarborough Community Legal Services.

TTC tickets will be made available for community members. Knox Presbyterian
Church is wheelchair accessible, and ASL interpretation and attendant care will
be available. Please register no later than Friday, May 20 if you need these
services. If you need other types of accommodation, more information or to
register, please call 416-438-7206 or send an e-mail to zpopal@crct.org. Please note that a request
for another type of accommodation is not a guarantee that it will be available
– the organizers will try to make arrangements for requests.
