City of Toronto Snow Removal Update
  • Work continues 24-hours-a-day to clear both main roads and residential streets in Toronto
  • With the heavy snowfall last night, the City has declared a snow emergency. There will be no parking or stopping on designated snow routes and the City has the power to tag and tow vehicles parked in these areas
  • A map of City snow routes is available to the media
  • The priority system will keep the major roads clear for emergency vehicles and public transit vehicles
  • City transportation officials are urging residents to use discretion when travelling
  • The City encourages residents to remove snow from sidewalks as quickly as possible for safety reasons and is asking the public not to shovel snow back onto the street
  • The City is asking malls, churches, schools and other establishments not to dump snow back on public property
  • Delivery vehicle operators are requested not to stop on street car tracks so as to prevent unnecessary TTC delays
Snow Maintenance Updates District 1 (former City of Toronto, East York and York)
  • Crews at work to plow all main streets
  • After main roads plowed, crews to plow local roads
  • Crews gearing up for plowing tonight with snowfall expected
  • More than 65 kilometres of snow has been melted
  • Crews have removed 16,000 truck loads of snow
District 2 (Etobicoke)
  • All major roads are being plowed
  • All local roads are being plowed
  • Hauling operation suspended due to snowfall on Tuesday evening
  • Approximately 2,000 truck loads of snow have been hauled from this region
District 3 (North York)
  • All roads are being plowed
  • By 8:00 a.m. this morning, 30% of roads had been plowed, expect completion by this evening
  • Crews continue to plow sidewalks, bus stops and crosswalks
  • Hauling operation suspended due to snowfall on Tuesday evening
District 4 (Scarborough)
  • All main roads have been plowed once
  • Secondary roads will be cleared after main roads have been plowed for a second time
  • Work is underway to plow some residential streets
  • Work expected to resume on entrances to driveways at 11:00 a.m. today
  • Work continues to clear snow at bus stops, sidewalks and crosswalks
  • Removal of snow on seniors? sidewalks will begin after Wednesday morning snowfall
