St. Lawrence Market presents a farm culinary experience
St. Lawrence Market is heading to the farm, holding its first ever farm and culinary experience. Customers will be able to tour Sovereign Farms, which is owned by one of the North Market's farmers, and enjoy a farm-inspired barbecue prepared by St. Lawrence Market chefs.

The tour, to be held August 19 (registration now open), is a joint effort with Wes and Brenda Sovereign, who have a vegetable greenhouse operation in Waterford, Ontario, specializing in grape tomatoes. Visitors will tour 30 acres of farmland and gain an understanding of the passion, dedication and hard work that go into growing the selection of tomatoes customers see at the market every Saturday.

This tour will be educational and fun. The St. Lawrence Market customers who participate will get to know the producers of their food while seeing in person where the food comes from. The participants will travel to the farm by luxury coach. En route, passengers will be able to munch on treats from British Baked Goods and sample coffees from Merchants of Green Coffee. Both merchants are participants at the Saturday farmers market at the North Market.

The farm-inspired lunch menu includes tomatoes, noodle and grain salads, grilled vegetables and corn, assorted grilled shrimp, pork and chicken skewers, fruit pies and zucchini chocolate cake. The day at the farm will conclude with a hay ride.

The price to participate in this farm and culinary experience is $85 plus applicable taxes. Families are welcome.

To register and participate in this experience, call 416-392-7120.

A schedule for the day can be viewed on the St. Lawrence Market website at Customers can also follow us on facebook and twitter @stlawrencemkt.
