City of Toronto to honour exceptional long-term-care volunteers

Toronto City Councillor Paul Ainslie (Ward 43 Scarborough East), on behalf of Mayor Rob Ford, together with guests including other members of Council, will participate in a volunteer awards ceremony at City Hall on Friday.

Date: Friday, April 20
Time: 12:30 p.m.
Location: Members Lounge, Toronto City Hall, 100 Queen St. W.

Participating councillors will help present awards to exceptional volunteers who have donated their time, energy and skills to enhance the lives of residents at the City of Toronto's 10 long-term care homes.

These volunteers contributed a total of about 137,000 hours of service in 2011 - averaging about 50 volunteer hours devoted to each resident.

The volunteers visit residents and support a range of services, including arts and gardening programs, therapeutic programs, cultural and religious activities, and special events.
