New therapeutic rooftop garden opens at Lakeshore Lodge
City of Toronto Councillor Mark Grimes (Ward 6 Etobicoke-Lakeshore) was joined by the residents, families, friends, volunteers and staff of Lakeshore Lodge to officially open the facility's new therapeutic rooftop garden today. Lakeshore Lodge is one of the City's 10 Long-Term Care Homes.

"The health benefits of gardening or just being outside are well documented, and we wanted to provide the residents of Lakeshore Lodge with a safe place where they can enjoy the outdoors," said Councillor Grimes.

The rooftop garden features raised flower beds, a shade structure and fragrant perennials. Residents will be able to use this space to garden, visit with friends and relatives and exercise. The garden will also be used to host special events for the residents. It was designed by Vertech Design Inc. and made possible through the fundraising efforts over the past six years by the local community, including organizations such as Medical Pharmacies, Toronto Community News and Humber College.
