Scarborough gardeners to be recognized with Trillium Garden Awards

The City of Toronto will host the 2012 Trillium Garden Awards event recognizing Scarborough’s outstanding front gardens for their contribution to the community's beautification.

Date: Thursday, October 4
Time: Photo display of winning gardens at 6:30 p.m.; award presentation at 7 p.m.
Location: Rotunda, Scarborough Civic Centre, 150 Borough Dr.

Nominated gardens were judged in August. Criteria for evaluation included design, use of plant material, condition and maintenance, hard landscaping, environmental practices, community contribution and distinction.

Twenty-three gardens representing Scarborough's 10 wards will be recognized this year, consisting of two residential gardens from each ward and one award for all of Scarborough in the categories of commercial, environmental, and high density.

The Trillium Garden Awards is a partnership between the City of Toronto's Parks, Forestry and Recreation division and volunteers from the Agincourt Garden Club and the Scarborough Garden and Horticultural Society.
