Tunnel boring for Toronto-York Spadina subway extension begins
  
This joint media advisory involving the City of Toronto was issued by Transport Canada this morning.

TORONTO, June 16, 2011 - The Honourable Peter Kent, Minister of the Environment; along with the Honourable Kathleen Wynne, Ontario's Minister of Transportation; His Worship Rob Ford, Mayor of Toronto; York Region Chairman and CEO Bill Fisch; and Toronto Transit Commission Chair Karen Stintz will participate in an event to start tunnel boring construction for the Toronto-York Spadina Subway Extension (TYSSE).

Date: Friday, June 17, 2011
Time: 10 a.m. (please arrive at 9:45 a.m.)
Location: Sheppard Avenue West Station launch site (Sheppard Avenue West at Tuscan Gate)

Directions: The Keele Street and Sheppard Avenue West intersection can be accessed from Highway 401 by taking the Keele exit northbound, and from Highway 400 by taking the Finch Avenue exit eastbound, then turning onto Keele southbound.

From the Keele and Sheppard intersection, travel eastbound on Sheppard, turning right at the second set of lights onto Tuscan Gate and into the driveway of the Downsview Park Merchants Market.

Parking: Turn left at the parking lot entrance, following signs to the event parking area.

Note: The event is to be held outdoors at a working construction site with gravel underfoot. Sturdy, closed toe footwear is required.
