City of Toronto to host 2011 Trillium Garden Awards

The 2011 Trillium Garden Awards recognize residential and commercial front gardens for their contribution to the beautification of the city through the use of creative landscaping, colourful annual and perennial planting and well kept grounds.

Date: Thursday, October 6
Time: 6:30 to 9 p.m., official remarks: 7 p.m.
Location: Scarborough Civic Centre, Rotunda, 150 Borough Dr.

The nominated gardens were located in each of Scarborough’s 10 wards (Ward 35 through to Ward 44). Judging was done in August, based on a variety of criteria including design, use of plant material, condition and maintenance, landscaping, environmental practices, community contribution and distinction.

Twenty-nine gardens will be recognized in the following categories:
• 20 Residential - Traditional
• 4 Residential - Environmental/Alternative
• 4 Commercial
• 1 High Density

Photographs of the winning gardens will be on display.

The Trillium Garden Awards are presented by the City of Toronto's Parks, Forestry and Recreation division in partnership with volunteers from the Agincourt Garden Club and the Scarborough Garden and Horticultural Society.
