Update on snow-clearing operations in Toronto

The City of Toronto's Transportation Services Division responded to today's early morning snowfall by spreading two to three rounds of salt on the expressways and main roads across the City before rush hour.

Salting on local residential streets is being carried out through the day and will be finished by about 4 p.m. Local roads are not plowed unless the city receives eight centimetres of snow.

Sidewalks and transit stops are being monitored and spot salted where required.

Residents are asked to call 311 if there are any issues relating to icing on the roads.

The public can learn more about sidewalk snow clearing in Toronto and view a map of where the service takes place at http://www.toronto.ca/transportation/snow/sidewalks.

Toronto is Canada's largest city and sixth largest government, and home to a diverse population of about 2.8 million people. Toronto's government is dedicated to delivering customer service excellence, creating a transparent and accountable government, reducing the size and cost of government and building a transportation city. For information on non-emergency City services and programs, Toronto residents, businesses and visitors can dial 311, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
