Fashion award winners celebrated at gala|

Economic Development -- Toronto's leaders in fashion were recognized last night
with the presentation of the City of Toronto 2001 Awards for Excellence in
Fashion. The winners were announced at the opening night party for Toronto
Fashion Week, presented by the City of Toronto and "Fashion" magazine.
The annual awards presentation recognizes outstanding achievement in fashion.
Media and industry members submitted their nominations in the following
categories and an independent panel of industry experts chose the recipients:
Designer of the Year, Adrian Aitcheson, Roots Canada
New Designer, fiona chau and josephine kwan, mabel
Specialty Designer, Karen Palmer
Manufacturer, Roots Canada
Fashion Retailer, Danier Leather
Image Builder, L'Oréal Professionnel
Lifetime Achievement, David Livingstone
Fashion Graduate, Yolanda Ng
"Supporting Canadian fashion and design has always been an important part of
Fashion magazine's mandate, so we are thrilled to be part of an event that
celebrates our fashion industry and the achievements of its members," said
Leanne Delap, editor-in-chief of Fashion magazine.
"The City of Toronto has been working together with members of the
fashion/apparel industry since 1984 to support and promote the sector, through
such initiatives as these awards, Toronto Fashion Week, the Toronto Fashion

More than 100 designers will present their collections at various locations
from March 18 through 24, as L'Oréal Professionnel presents Toronto Fashion
Week, organized by the Fashion Design Council of Canada.
