City hosts large truck safety demonstration

As part of a city-wide educational campaign to reduce the number of cyclist
deaths associated with large trucks, the City's Road and Trail Safety
Ambassadors will host a large truck cycling safety event.

Date: Thursday, August 15
Time: Noon to 1 p.m.
Location: Metro Hall Square, 55 John St.

Each year, approximately 37 per cent of fatal motor vehicle and bike collisions
involve large vehicles. During this event, ambassadors will discuss the proper
techniques for cycling when approaching these large trucks and demonstrate what
the driver experiences when driving these vehicles.

This event and the Road and Trail Safety Ambassador program is sponsored by TD
Canada Trust Friends of the Environment Foundation, Bell Sports, Mountain
Equipment Co-op, Eurotex, McBride Cycle, and Norco.
