Toronto Special Events - This year, Nathan Phillips Square plays host to the
Opening Ceremonies of Ontario's second largest winter festival, Toronto
Winterfest presented by Shoppers Drug Mart. On Friday, February 8 at 6:30
p.m., this free festival will kick-off with Axels and Arias, a magical evening
of exciting figure skating and live music. This incredible skating show
features three-Canadian champion, Josée Chouinard and Russia's skating
sensation Olympic gold medallist, Alexei Urmanov.
This incredible evening of world-class figure skating includes a special
skating routine choreographed to the live operatic sounds of the Three Canadian
Tenors. Also, Winterfest favourites, black ice will show off their
award-winning precision skating techniques as they team up with the comedic
style of Canada's only all-male synchronized skating team, Ice Nightmare.
Toronto Winterfest is an incredible free three-day, indoor-outdoor festival for
those who prefer to celebrate, rather than hibernate, during the coolest season
of the year! The festival is so jam-packed with non-stop things to see and do
it takes two major winter wonderland destinations to showcase it all. Its
traditional "North Pole" location at Mel Lastman Square is chock full of
exciting activities for the kids, while the "South Pole" location at Nathan
Phillips Square is programmed this year to accommodate the tastes of the
festival's growing adult audience.
The fun begins at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, February 8 at Nathan Phillips Square
with the Opening Ceremonies and continues throughout the weekend at both
festival sites from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 9 and 10:00
a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 10 with a free pancake breakfast hosted
by Enbridge Consumers Gas to kick start each morning.
Ride the Rocket to both our festival sites! For Nathan Phillips Square located
at 100 Queen Street West, take the TTC Queen Street streetcar (501), or the
Yonge Line subway (exit Queen station) or the University Line (exit Osgoode
station). For Mel Lastman Square, take the Yonge Line subway (exit North York
Centre). Getting there couldn't be easier!
