Media Advisory/Photo Opportunity: "Give a dog a bone" party celebrates four-legged volunteers at Lakeshore Lodge|

On Friday, October 4, Lakeshore Lodge residents, staff and volunteers will join
in a ceremony to present volunteer awards to two therapy dog owners and their
special pets. The event will include a tour of one of the home for the aged's
resident areas. Along the way, residents will help reward the dogs by
presenting them with, of course, bones. Once the tour is completed, the guests
of honour will be treated to a more formal presentation of certificates and, of
course, more bones.
This ceremony will also include remarks by Jill Horwood of Volunteers Etobicoke
and Susan HiIl from St. John Ambulance, the organization that operates the
therapy dog program.
St. John Ambulance Therapy Dogs help to improve the quality of life of anyone
who will benefit from the regular love and care of a dog; children in hospital,
people with physical and/or developmental disabilities, and people in seniors'
residences, palliative care or rest homes. The two dogs who are regular
visitors to Lakeshore Lodge have become cherished friends to many of the
residents, and are an important part of life at this Etobicoke home for the
