Holiday happenings in Toronto's historic houses
Shop. Dine. Explore. Celebrate the Holidays in Toronto. This season, discover a
world of exciting holiday activity - right in your own backyard. As you shop
and dine your way around town, be sure to take a break to explore and celebrate
the best of the season. Special events and Christmas celebrations are happening
around the city and in your neighbourhood. Don't let the holidays go by without
experiencing some festive fun. Be sure to join in the holiday cheer and take
advantage of the incredible selection of things to see and do. There's
something for everyone!

Celebrate the magic of Christmas at Toronto's historic houses. Seven of the
City's historic museums are decorated as they would have been during the
Christmas season long ago. Adults and children alike can experience the charm
of Toronto's past while discovering Christmas customs from the Victorian era to
the turn-of-the century. Special events, guided tours and interactive
activities for children help draw connections between today's celebrations and
past traditions. From tasty treats and hot apple cider in the historic
kitchens, to crafts for kids and Christmas tales by the fireside - there is
much to explore!

Learn about Twelfth Night at Colborne Lodge, step back into Toronto's rural
past at Gibson House Museum, the 1851 Georgian farmhouse, and experience the
beauty of a Victorian Christmas at Mackenzie House. Take part in a family
Christmas sing-along at Montgomery's Inn, enjoy Christmas desserts by lamplight
at Scarborough Historical Museum and make a woven wheat Christmas decoration at
Todmorden Mills.

This year, Spadina Museum Historic House & Gardens has expanded their Edwardian
Christmas theme to compare and contrast Ukrainian Christmas customs with early
holiday influences in Toronto. This program celebrates that today's holiday
traditions are a blend of customs brought to the city by people from all over
the world.

Festive activities run throughout the month of December and most extend until
the first week in January. For a complete listing of Toronto's historic museums
and their Christmas events, call the information hotline at 416-338-3888 or
