Garbage collection dates change for some residents following City's move to new collection schedules
Works and Emergency Services -- The City of Toronto's new garbage collection
schedule, which goes into effect next week, will result in a change in garbage
collection days for some residents.

The new garbage collection plan has workers moving to a four-day, 10-hour
pickup schedule. Collection will take place from Tuesday to Friday. There will
be no more collection on Mondays. In the past, holiday Mondays have created
schedule changes across the city.

"Some residents may have a new collection day as a result of this change," said
Angelos Bacopoulos, General Manager, Solid Waste Management Services. "We urge
residents to look closely at their new collection calendar to make sure that
they put their garbage out on the right day."

Bacopoulos added that by today, all residents should have received their new
garbage and recycling collection calendar. If residents are not sure whether
they are affected by the change or have not received their calendar, they can
call the following numbers.

East York 416-396-2800
Etobicoke/York 416-338-2010
North York 416-395-6205
Scarborough 416-396-7372
Toronto 416-392-7742

Customer Service phone staff will have extended hours Monday, February 4 to
Friday, February 8 from 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Regular hours (8:30 a.m. to 4:30
p.m.) will resume on Monday, February 11.

The Etobicoke community will move to this schedule in July, when the new
organics program is implemented.

Starting Monday, February 4, residents can also view their collection calendar
on the City's Web site at
