Mayor Shocked at Computer Bribe Allegations

Media reports alleging bribes were solicited by a lobbyist on behalf of an
elected official are "shocking in the extreme," Mayor Mel Lastman said today.

"There's no place for criminal behaviour in this city," Lastman said. "We
expect our councillors and staff to set an example; if the allegations reported
today are true, I want charges laid. The people of Toronto deserve justice and
let's be clear: if a crime was committed, it was the people of Toronto who were
the victims."

Lastman said he has faith that the OPP investigation will get to the bottom of
the matter and expressed hope that once it does, the Toronto Computer Leasing
Inquiry will resume.

"At this point, I think we all want answers," he said.
