Mayor congratulates Eves on win

Toronto - Mayor Mel Lastman today offered congratulations to Ernie
Eves on his successful bid for leadership of the Ontario Progressive
Conservatives and said he is looking forward to working with Ontario's new
Premier.

"I believe this to be the dawn of a new relationship between the Province of
Ontario and the City of Toronto," said Mayor Lastman. "As a provincial
minister, Mr. Eves introduced many initiatives that recognized this City's
distinct needs. As Premier, I'm sure he will continue that tradition."

Lastman said he intends to take the new Premier up on his offer of a meeting to
discuss downloading, housing and shelter support, improvements to the
province's new Municipal Act and a new source of revenue for Toronto.

"All of these things are of vital importance to the people of Toronto," Lastman
said, "and by working together, I'm sure that we will be able to make progress
on several of these fronts."
