Toronto City Council Appoints New City Solicitor
  
City of Toronto Chief Administrative Officer Shirley Hoy announced today the
appointment of Anna Kinastowski to the position of City Solicitor. Toronto City
Council confirmed Ms. Kinastowski's appointment at its meeting today.

Ms. Kinastowski was called to the Bar of Ontario in 1981, and holds a Bachelor
of Law degree from the University of Toronto as well as a Bachelor of Arts
degree from McMaster University. She has been a member of the City of Toronto's
Legal Division since 1997, most recently as Director of Planning and
Administrative Tribunal Law. Before joining the City of Toronto, Ms.
Kinastowski was Director, General Legal Services with the former City of
Scarborough. In total, she has over 20 years experience in municipal government.

Deputy Mayor Case Ootes said, "I am pleased that the key position of City
Solicitor has been filled by Ms. Kinastowski, who has excellent experience and
knowledge of the City's challenges and priorities. I look forward to working
with her."

Chief Administrative Officer Shirley Hoy added, "Ms. Kinastowski has an
extensive background in municipal law, and is an experienced senior manager
with a successful track record leading and managing teams."

Ms. Kinastowski's appointment is effective March 18, 2002.
