Media Advisory: Third Garden unveiling recognizes the value of arts and community partnerships
Date: Wednesday, September 25
Time: 6 p.m., reception following
Location: Lakeshore Grounds, adjacent to the Assembly Hall
(southeast corner of Lake Shore Boulevard and Kipling Avenue)

The Culture Division of the Economic Development, Culture and Tourism
Department is inviting the public to celebrate the launch of Third Garden, a
public art project adjacent to the Assembly Hall on the Lakeshore Grounds.
Third Garden was designed by Millie Chen and Warren Quigley. The art work is a
site-specific installation that consists of five cast iron seating forms, eight
concrete pavers inlaid with cast bronze text and landscaping. The text in the
pavers is based on oral and recorded histories of the former Lakeshore
Psychiatric Hospital facilities, a prominent landmark setting in Etobicoke for
over 100 years. This project was initiated by the Etobicoke Municipal Arts
Commission and the Etobicoke Public Art Advisory Committee.

The unveiling will be followed by an opening ceremony at the Assembly Hall of
the annual Heart of the Lakeshore art exhibition, and immediately afterwards,
the third annual assembly of the South Etobicoke Regeneration Project / SERP
launches their new look.

Guest Speakers:
Councillor Irene Jones, Ward 6, Etobicoke-Lakeshore
Rita Davies, Managing Director, Culture
Millie Chen and Warren Quigley, artists
