Media Advisory: Toronto EMS paramedics sweep 'Medic Up' competition
Emergency Medical Services - Tactical paramedics from Toronto EMS finished 1-2
in the International Tactical Emergency Medical Services Association's 2nd
Annual 'Medic Up' Competition on October 9 at Exhibition Place. The RCMP
Toronto emergency response team took first place in the tactical officer part
of the competition.

Members of the media are invited to the 'Medic Up' awards ceremony.

Time: Noon - 2 p.m.
Place: Colony Hotel, 89 Chestnut St.

'Medic Up' is the world's only tactical EMS-specific competition. Tactical
officer teams of four and two medical persons competed in four events of the
'Medic Up' competition. The events were: dynamic entry, victim rescue under
fire, extraordinary deployment and 'The Gauntlet,' a timed event featuring
seven casualty management stations.

In the Tactical Medical category, the Toronto EMS team of Alan Wingfield and
Lorne Burns took first place, with Toronto EMS's Fred Galvan and Paul Bagley in
a second place tie with the Coral Springs, Florida, team of Jan Tritican and
Justin Parrinello. In the Tactical Officer category, RCMP Toronto took first
place, with Halton Region finishing second and Durham Region placing third.

'Medic Up' is part of the Tactical EMS 2002 Conference and Exposition being
held October 9 - 12 at the Colony Hotel. International Tactical EMS Association
(ITEMS) is a non-profit organization devoted to the advancement of tactical
emergency medical services.
