Toronto Winterfest begins on Friday |
| || ||
Celebrate, don't hibernate this weekend, February 8, 9 and 10, at the coolest
event of the year, Toronto Winterfest, presented by Shoppers Drug Mart.
You could spend the weekend on the couch, but why would you when Toronto is
hopping with this incredible, free, three-day, indoor-outdoor festival!
Winterfest is so jam-packed with amazing things to see and do, it takes two
winter wonderland destinations to showcase it all: the festival's North Pole
location at Mel Lastman Square and the South Pole site at Nathan Phillips
New this year, Toronto Winterfest expands beyond its traditional family
programming to include entertainment and activities for adults at Nathan
Phillips Square, while Mel Lastman Square remains the ultimate destination for
families with young children.
Also new for 2002, Nathan Phillips Square plays host to the festival's Friday
night opening ceremonies and popular ice show, Axels and Arias, featuring
Canadian champion Josée Chouinard and Olympic gold medallist Alexei Urmanov.
Nathan Phillips Square's highlights include a free Saturday night concert by
Warner Music Canada's multi-platinum recording artists Great Big Sea, the
world's only performance ice sculptors, Fear No Ice, and the premiere of Cirque
Sublime's captivating aerial acrobatic dance show Sub Zero.
At Mel Lastman Square, highlights include an interactive theatrical journey in
the Mad Science and Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex's Mad Mission to Mars
2025, the hysterical antics of the Daredevil Opera, the Canadian premier of
Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends, All Aboard Tour, plus a musical revue
featuring best-selling author Richard Scarry's beloved storybook characters.
All this would not be possible without the support of Winterfest's fantastic
presenting sponsor Shoppers Drug Mart, and Gold sponsors the Eaton Centre,
Enbridge Consumers Gas, Mercedes-Benz Canada Inc., Scotiabank and SuperPages.
The fun begins at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, February 8 at Nathan Phillips Square
with the opening ceremonies and continues throughout the weekend at both
festival sites from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturday, February 9, and 10 a.m. to
6 p.m. on Sunday, February 10 with a free pancake breakfast hosted by Enbridge
Consumers Gas to kick start each morning.
