Toronto Parks and Recreation - West District awards winners of 2003 Great Gardens Contest
Representatives from Toronto Parks & Recreation and the West District Great
Gardens Committee recognized the winners of the annual Great Gardens Contest
today at the Old Mill Inn, 21 Old Mill Rd.

The annual contest is held between mid-May and the first week of July. All
gardens have been nominated for consideration by local residents and visitors
to Toronto. Gardens are recognized in Residential - Traditional, Residential -
Environmental/Alternative, Commercial and Industrial, and Other Properties
categories. Residents and businesses have participated from Wards 1 and 2
(Etobicoke North), Wards 3 and 4 (Etobicoke Centre), Wards 5 and 6 (Etobicoke
Lakeshore), York East area and York West area. All gardens have been judged
from mid-July to the end of August in a variety of criteria including design,
use of plant material, condition and maintenance, hard landscaping,
environmental practices, community contribution and distinction.

The Great Gardens Contest is a successful partnership between Toronto Parks &
Recreation and the Horticultural Societies of Etobicoke, Roselands and Westway.
The 2003 contest has been sponsored by the Old Mill Inn and Plant World.
