City of Toronto issues Request for Expressions of Interest for provision of New and Emerging Technologies, Policies and Practices to manage Toronto's residual solid waste|
| || ||
Works and Emergency Services -- The City of Toronto seeks new and emerging
technologies, policies and practices to process and divert from landfill the
residual solid waste remaining after diversion programs such as the Blue Box,
Green Bin organics processing and leaf and yard waste composting. This
represents up to 40 per cent of the municipal solid waste stream. The City is
seeking technologies that may incorporate physical, biological, chemical and/or
advanced thermal processes. The City is not interested in incineration
technologies or landfill capacity.
The Request for Expressions of Interest (REOI) document (#9155-03-7283) is
available as of June 2, 2003 on the City's Web site at:
The purpose of the REOI is to:
· identify potential vendors of new and emerging technologies which are
currently at least at the pilot stage;
· provide notice of Toronto's intention to issue Requests for Qualifications
and Requests for Proposals for such technologies; and
· solicit information from potential vendors regarding recommendations about
evaluation/selection of technologies.
This REOI is not a pre-qualification stage. Respondents to this REOI may be
invited to participate in a forum to present their technologies to City of
Toronto staff, politicians and the Citizen and Expert Advisory Group assisting
the City to recommend technologies for managing Toronto's residual waste.
Responses to the REOI must be received prior to 12:00 noon EDST on July 14,
