Media Advisory: Sophisticated Swing serenades Mel Lastman Square
Sunday Serenades, presented by Scotiabank, is a weekly summer concert series at
Mel Lastman Square. The series brings the smooth sounds of top-notch swing, big
band and jazz acts to a hot summer evening. Swing dance enthusiasts will have a
chance to dance under the stars at these free concerts. Sunday Serenades runs
every Sunday from July 6 to August 24, between 7:30 p.m. and 9 p.m.

The series kicks off July 6 with Sophisticated Swing, a group that performs big
band classics. Sophisticated Swing is an 18-piece big band, created and led by
Carl Hamilton, consisting of musicians from the Golden Horseshoe area. In
addition to the traditional swing music of the 1940s and 1950s, Sophisticated
Swing has a large repertoire of the great tunes from the 1960s through the
1990s. They have performed at such notable festivals as the CNE Big Band
Festival and the Oakville Downtown Jazz Festival.
