Mayor's Task Force gives local events and festivals a $500,000 boost

The Mayor's Toronto: You Belong Here Recovery Task Force agreed today to
encourage local events and festivals by waiving a wide range of City fees. Fees
will be waived on most events and festivals taking place from now until the end
of September of this year.

The City estimates that the move will help event organizers save fees valued at
a total of approximately $500,000. This includes fees for street closures,
barricades, emergency medical services, and Parks and Recreation Infrastructure
fees (which pay for such items as staging).

The Task Force also gave the green light for work to proceed on the next phase
of the Toronto: You Belong Here marketing campaign. The next phase will focus
on boosting local and regional attendance at major community events and
festivals in Toronto by providing each event with direct, specific marketing,
advertising, public relations and promotional support. Further details will be
announced in the near future.
