What do Music, Dogs and Street Parties have in Common? You'll find them all in Toronto this weekend!
July 14, 2003 - Toronto, ON -Mayor Mel Lastman's "Toronto: You Belong Here"
Recovery Task Force is encouraging Torontonians to enjoy another jam-packed
weekend of fun. This weekend, take your pick from a diverse line-up of
festivals, cultural celebrations, street parties, dog shows and other exciting
events including the official kick off of Caribana! Here are this weekend's

2003 Caribana Kick Off, July 18
Get ready for the excitement of calypso, steel pan and elaborate masquerade
costumes as Caribana, North America's largest cultural festival, launches two
weeks of events celebrating Caribbean dance, music and arts. This Friday, from
noon to 2:00 p.m. head out to Nathan Phillips Square to witness the official
launch of Caribana and enjoy an atmosphere filled with lively costumed
Caribbean folk dancers, limbo artists, the tastes and smells of Caribbean
cuisine, and souvenirs at the Caribana Marketplace. The event will feature
performances by Roy Cape & the Allstars, Queen Sharona, Lady Nikki, Dennis
James, Farmer's Rhythm Section, and Jessie Ketchum Steel Band. For more

Children's Carnival Parade, July 19
This Saturday, Yorkgate Mall (Jane & Finch) will come alive with a colourful
showcase of costumes and lyrical talent as children and youths aged four to 16
participate in the Children's Carnival Parade as part of the celebrations of
2003 Caribana. Taking place from noon to 4:00 pm, this free event proves that
Caribana is as much for the young as it is for the old, so come out and support
the Junior Kings and Queens as they compete for coveted crowns. For more

Parti Gras! Jazz Festival, July 19 & 20
The Beaches International Jazz Festival has added a new event to its roster -
Parti Gras at the Distillery. An intense warm up for the main festival itself,
Toronto Parti Gras is a two-day event that will take place at the Distillery
Historic District. From noon to 11:00 pm, enjoy the old fashion jazz, spicy
Latino, funk, rhythm and blues and other soulful sounds of Toronto's jazz
festival scene. With four stages featuring non-stop bands and entertainment,
super-powered street performers, high-energy dancers, roving buskers and more,
you won't want to miss this exciting event. Admission is free. For more

Super Pet Dog Show, July 19 & 20
The McCann Professional Dog Trainers and their extraordinarily talented canine
friends return to Ontario Place for another series of unforgettable,
show-stopping performances that will amaze and delight visitors of all ages.
These specially-trained canines are set to tackle a challenging obstacle course
featuring ramps, jumps, alcoves, hair-pin turns and more. Other show highlights
include a special Flyball demonstration. There will be five shows daily

Bloor West Village Festival, July 18 & 19
The annual Bloor West Village Festival is an exciting family event you won't
want to miss! Spanning nine blocks along Bloor Street, west of High Park from
Kingsway to
Glendonwynne Rd., the event kicks off Friday evening at 6:00 p.m. with a
moonlight madness sale and free performances by jazz bands. The festival
continues on Saturday with a bandstand show (Windermere & Bloor) featuring a
magic show, a dog show, musical and dance performances and more beginning at 9
a.m. From 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., visitors can also enjoy a variety of street
festival activities including pony rides, a petting zoo, face painting, mini
golf and more. The festival ends with a street dance beginning at 8 p.m. with

St. Clair Gardens Sidewalk Sale, July 18 & 19
Get ready to shop and save! This Friday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday
