Pick a pool, get training -- and dive into Swim for the Kids 2003. Canada's
largest swimming event is coming to a pool near you beginning Saturday, August
Take part at any of the 30 indoor and outdoor pools in Toronto hosting special
Swim for the Kids sessions for an estimated 1,000 swimmers from August 2 to 17.
The event gives people of all ages and abilities every motivation to shape up
and help raise over $100,000 for a great cause.
All funds raised will go to the Hospital for Sick Children Foundation. In 2002,
the event's first year, more than 240 participants raised $44,000. This money
was used to purchase a Genetic Sequencer for the hospital's immunodeficiency
Canada's most research-intensive hospital and the largest centre dedicated to
improving children's health in the country, the Hospital for Sick Children aims
to provide the best family-centred, compassionate care to lead in scientific
and clinical advancement, and to prepare for the next generation of leaders in
Swimmers of all ages and abilities can take part in Swim for the Kids in one of
five ways. There are three timed events (T) and two untimed events (U):
-- Individual 5,000 m (T)
-- Individual 2,500 m (T)
-- Individual 1,500 m (U)
-- 5,000 m in a team of three to five members (T). A full Swimathon is the
sport's equivalent to running a marathon (5,000 m works out to 200 lengths of a
25 m pool or just over three miles)
§ Simply Swim (U) is the flexible fifth category and is perfect for anyone who
can't find a convenient pool or session time. The public can simply drop-in at
any pool in Toronto at any time during August and 'Simply Swim' as far as you
Every swimmer who registers receives a swim hat and personalised certificate of
achievement. Anyone who completes 5,000 m will be presented with an exclusive
Swim for the Kids medal.

Q What is Swim for the Kids?
A It's an exciting fundraising swim challenge hosted by City of Toronto Parks
Q What do I have to do?
A There are three individual challenge distances; 5,000m, 2,500m and 1,500m or
you can do the 5,000m as a team of three to five of your family, friends or

A You can enter as "Simply Swim" and swim as much or as little as you like --
just swim your best.
Q What if I can't attend an advertised session?
A You can still take part by entering "Simply Swim" and complete your swim when
it is most convenient for you before Sunday, August 31. If you wish to complete
one of the challenge distances and would like your time to be recorded on the
official results, please get your time verified by a member of the pool staff.
Q When is it?
A Saturday, August 2 to Sunday, August 17. Session times for this pool are on
the entry form.
Q How do I enter?
A Visit www.swimforthekids.com and enter online or pick up a form from the
reception desk and mail to the Swim for the Kids office. For more information

Q How much does it cost?
Entry Type: Youth (under 16); Individual cost: $6; Team cost:$15
Entry Type: Adult (16 - 60); Individual cost: $10; Team cost: $25
Entry Type: Senior (60+); Individual cost: $8; Team cost: $20
Mixed entry type teams are to pay the team payment price for whichever category
the majority (over half) of their team fall into.
Q How do I fundraise?
A Once you have registered you will receive a pledge form with your
confirmation letter/email. Alternatively you can pick one up from your local
participating pool or download one from the swimmers section of the Web site.

Q Can the people who sponsor me get a tax receipt?
A Yes, a tax receipt will be provided from the Hospital for Sick Children
Foundation for all donations over $10.
Q Why should I do it?
A It's a real challenge, a chance to improve your swimming and fitness and to
raise money for a really great cause - and it's fun!
Q I am not a swimmer, but I would like to help. How can I volunteer?
