City of Toronto cancels services to conserve power (2nd revision)
The need to conserve energy to ensure the availability of electricity where it
is needed most is the priority of the City of Toronto. The City is taking a
lead role in energy conservation and therefore will dramatically scale back
services to provide only the most important and essential services.

The City will continue providing services to the most vulnerable residents in
the city and those services affecting public health and safety. However, other
services will be cancelled.

Closing the services that are not essential will help ensure that the City
contributes to conservation efforts and has adequate electricity. Garbage
collection will continue. Emergency services will continue 24 hours a day. The
subway will be running today with a stable source of electricity.

Unless expressly advised by their manager or supervisor not to report for duty,
all City staff are required to report to work. Employees working in a service
area that has been cancelled are still required to report for work unless
otherwise advised by their manager or supervisor.
