Sic'em Jack!

Toronto - Mayor Mel Lastman today congratulated Toronto Councillor Jack Layton
(Ward 30, Toronto-Danforth) on his successful bid for leadership of the federal
NDP.

"Sometimes Jack and I disagree, but we've had a great relationship and I know
he loves Toronto as much as I do - just as I know he'll fight like hell to get
Ottawa back into the affordable housing business," Lastman said.

"I have faith in Jack to keep municipal issues in the spotlight as our cities
are the engines that drive our provinces and our country. Jack knows it, and I
wish him well on the national stage. Sic'em, Jack!"

Layton took over the NDP leadership Saturday with 53.5 per cent of the party's
vote. He has pledged to campaign for the homeless, for affordable housing and
for the environment and will be running against Liberal MP Dennis Mills in the
next federal election.
