Local Chinese celebrities join City promotion in "Toronto: You Belong Here" campaign

Famous retired acting couple Ronald Bi and Ivy Ling Po, well-known columnist
and television personality Lau Tin Chi and popular all-round singer and
entertainer Teresa Carpio have joined forces with the City's "Toronto: You
Belong Here" campaign to encourage Torontonians to be tourists in their own
town.

The four celebrities will appear in a series of print ads that will be placed
in Chinese newspapers throughout the summer. In the ads, the celebrities praise
Toronto for its offering of leisure activities, multicultural dining
experiences and tremendous shopping. The ads then urge Torontonians to enjoy
the summer in the city and pick up a copy of the official Toronto Playbook.

True to her singing tradition, Teresa Carpio is the smooth voice behind the
Chinese version of the "Toronto: You Belong Here" campaign theme song as she
rejoices on Nathan Phillips Square in front of Toronto City Hall in the
campaign's 30-second television commercial. The commercial, slightly adapted
from the English version, will be on-air beginning July 10 and will air on
local Chinese stations throughout the summer.

The "Toronto: You Belong Here" campaign is part of the City of Toronto's
efforts to engage Torontonians and boost the recovery of the city's economy
from the impact of the SARS outbreak. The campaign includes: television, radio
and print ads; an official Toronto Playbook that contains useful information on
summer events and incentive coupons for hotels and attractions; as well as
Toronto Ambassadors who help welcome visitors to Toronto.

An important component of the campaign is an outreach strategy for the Chinese
community, which has been particularly affected by the outbreak. In addition to
campaign advertising in the Chinese media, the Mayor's "Toronto: You Belong
Here" Recovery Task Force has also allocated $200,000 in support of six
festivals in the Chinese community.

The "Toronto: You Belong Here" campaign will also include advertising in other
ethnic media, all aiming to encourage Toronto's diverse communities to come out
and celebrate the city.
