Snow ploughs, salt trucks take on winter storm

Works and Emergency Services - The City of Toronto's fleet of snow
ploughs, salt trucks and sidewalk ploughs are out in full force to tackle the
worst winter storm of the season.

The salt trucks took to the streets as soon as the snow began last night and
snow ploughs began work on the main roads and expressways at 3 a.m.

All main roads and expressways have been ploughed at least once and will be
ploughed continuously throughout the day. Ploughing on local roads has begun
and will also continue this afternoon.

"Our first priority is to keep the main roads clear for emergency and transit
vehicles," said Gary Welsh, Director, Toronto Transportation Services. "We have
begun ploughing the local roads as well, but we ask people to be patient as we
work our way around to all the side streets."

For more information about the City's snow clearing operations, call
416-338-SNOW (7669).
