Media Advisory: Cyclists make a bike and transit connection

The City of Toronto's Cycling Ambassadors are teaming up with the Toronto
Transit Commission (TTC) to show commuters the convenience of travelling with a
bike on the transit system. A bike-and-ride, a multi-modal commuting
demonstration, will take place as members of the Toronto Cycling Committee and
City staff board the Sheppard Subway.

Date: Tuesday, July 22

Time: 10 a.m.

Location: Leslie subway station (Sheppard line)

This bike-and-ride event will promote greater awareness of combining transit
with cycling to increase the distance of trips made by cyclists. A 1999 Decima
survey determined that 48 per cent of recreational cyclists attribute
"distance" as the major reason why they do not commute to work or school by
bicycle.

Bike-and-ride is one of many components of the Toronto Bike Plan - an ambitious
plan to make the city more bicycle friendly.

The Cycling Ambassadors would like to thank Ontario Power Generation as lead
sponsor and the following in-kind sponsors: Bell Sports, CAMEL BAK, Giro
helmets, McBride Cycle, Norco Bikes and OGC Canada.
