Media Advisory: Councillor joins firefighters and Santa at Christmas party
Toronto firefighters from Fire Station 426 will drive Santa Claus, Councillor
Sylvia Watson, Fire Chief Bill Stewart and Captain Scott Marks, President of
the Toronto Professional Fire Fighters' Association, as they take gifts to
children at the sixth annual Pediatric Christmas Party held by St. Joseph's
Health Centre.

Date: Monday, December 22, 2003
Time: 6:45 p.m.
Location: St. Joseph's Health Centre, 30 The Queensway, 7th floor

Fire stations across Toronto welcome new, unwrapped toys until Christmas Eve.
Gifts can be for children of all ages, from infants to teens in their
seventeenth year.

People can donate in many ways. Most people drop off their gifts at fire
stations. Another popular way is to collect gifts for the Toy Drive from
friends and co-workers at a party.

The various fire departments that make up today's Toronto Fire Services have
been involved with humanitarian initiatives during the holiday season as far
back as the 1950s, when firefighters repaired bicycles and second-hand toys to
give as Christmas gifts to needy children.
