Lastman congratulates McGuinty on win

Toronto - Mayor Mel Lastman tonight congratulated Dalton McGuinty on his
victory at the polls, urging the Premier-elect to make Toronto's need for
sustainable funding a priority for his Liberal government in the months ahead.

"I'm going to be counting on Premier-elect McGuinty to do right by Toronto,"
Lastman said. "He's already recognized that our City is the economic engine of
Ontario; now is the time to re-invest in that engine in a meaningful, on-going
way."

Lastman said that Premier Ernie Eves faced an impossible fight in the election
but expressed hope that Progressive Conservative MPPs will also fight for
Toronto's needs in their new role as opposition.

"In my 34-year career, I've worked with seven premiers," Lastman said. "I'm
going to miss breaking in my eighth."
