Mayor Mel disappointed to see Hodgson go

Toronto - Mayor Mel Lastman today called Chris Hodgson, Ontario's Municipal
Affairs Minister, a "friend of Toronto's" and said he was sorry to hear the
veteran politician will be resigning from Cabinet and bowing out of public
office in the next provincial election.

"We'll miss him," Lastman said, calling Hodgson a key ally in his struggle for
additional funding from the provincial and the federal governments. "He's been
one of the best friends this City has had and I know it won't be the same
without him around."

Hodgson announced Tuesday that his resignation from Cabinet would be effective
January 13, 2003, and that he would be focusing solely on the needs of his
riding for the balance of his term. He has been the MPP for
Haliberton-Victoria-Brock since 1994.
