City of Toronto welcomes the community to the new gym at the Fairbank Memorial Community Centre

Parks and Recreation --- Many community members were on hand as Councillor
Howard Moscoe cut the ribbon and officially opened the new gymnasium at the
Fairbank Community Centre at 2213 Dufferin St., on Saturday, June 14, 2003 at 2
p.m.

The official ceremony was followed by a basketball clinic for all ages, karate
and line dancing demonstrations and light refreshments.

Toronto Parks and Recreation staff began creating the programming for the
gymnasium early in 2003. This included moving basketball programs from the
Vaughan Road Youth Centre and offering a Raptor Ball March Break Camp. A full
recreation session commenced in the spring and a summer camp for children will
operate out of the new facility.

York-Fairbank Centre for Seniors, a major user of the community centre, has
transferred its fitness and yoga programs to the new gym and will be offering
enhanced sports programming for seniors.

The gymnasium was designed by Thomas Brown Architects Inc and built by Centrum
Renovation and Repair Inc. The gymnasium completes the second phase of an
expansion project, which included indoor bocce courts.
