Media Advisory: Toronto Cycling Ambassadors warn bike theft is bad karma

The City of Toronto's Cycling Ambassadors want to teach the public how to
prevent bike theft at their Bike Theft = Bad Karma event. With an average of
7,000 bicycles reported stolen every year in the city, the ambassadors want to
raise awareness around bike theft. Councillor Olivia Chow will kick off the
event with a few words about the campaign and her personal experience with
losing bikes to thieves.

Date: Friday, August 1

Time: 10 a.m. to noon

Location: Grassroots Environmental Products
408 Bloor St. W.
(north side of Bloor, between Bathurst Street and Spadina Road)

Information on bike theft and preventative measures will be demonstrated and
there will be a sticker giveaway courtesy of Grassroots Environmental Products.

Through campaigns and community outreach, Cycling Ambassadors provide safety
information and raise awareness for all road and trail users.

The Cycling Ambassadors would like to thank Ontario Power, the lead sponsor,
and the following in-kind sponsors: Bell Sports, CAMEL BAK, Giro helmets,
McBride Cycle, Norco Bikes and OGC Canada.
