Media Advisory: Only Fire Prevention Inspectors have authority
Fire Chief Bill Stewart cautions home and business owners and is available for
media interviews

Toronto Fire Services is concerned about recent criminal activity. Some people
have been misrepresenting themselves as legitimate inspectors (fire alarms,
fire extinguishers, etc.) inviting themselves in and performing unsolicited and
unauthorized fire inspections or fire alarm maintenance.

If Toronto Fire Services personnel need access to your home, they will be in
uniform, with approved photo ID. Please do not hesitate to ask to see their ID,
and if you have any concerns, please contact one of the numbers below.

As well, if an outside business knocks on your door without an appointment,
offering fire inspection, be very leery and cautious as to whether you would
consider letting them in. If you have any concerns, our Fire Prevention
Division welcomes any questions from anyone living or doing business in the
city of Toronto.
