Mayor Mel Lastman welcomes visitors to the city for Victoria Day

Mayor Mel Lastman today joined volunteer ambassadors at Toronto's Pearson
Airport to welcome visitors to the city for the 'Toronto: You Belong Here on
Victoria Day' weekend celebrations. Visitors arriving at the airport received
welcome bags and a brochure outlining the exciting events occurring throughout
the City this long weekend.

"We want people to know that Toronto is the city where they belong for the
Victoria Day weekend and all summer long," said Mayor Mel Lastman. "With
concerts, fireworks, theatre, festivals, museums and great restaurants, there's
no doubt that Toronto is the travel destination this summer."

Mayor Lastman greeted passengers from across Canada arriving at Pearson Airport
as part of Air Canada's 'Canada Loves Toronto' campaign. Volunteer ambassadors
are welcoming visitors throughout the weekend to show them that Toronto loves
Canada.

The highlights of the 'Toronto: You Belong Here on Victoria Day' weekend
celebrations are three nights of musical performances and spectacular
fireworks, scheduled for Mel Lastman Square on Saturday, May 17; Centennial
Park and Albert Campbell Square/Scarborough Town Centre on Sunday, May 18; and
Ashbridges Bay Park on Monday, May 19.

In addition to the welcoming activities at the airport, hundreds of "Toronto:
You Belong Here" ambassadors at several of Toronto's busiest locations are
providing tourists and Torontonians with information about the Victoria Day
weekend events.

"Members of Toronto's business community and the general public have shown
tremendous support for this campaign," said Mayor Lastman. "From corporate
donations for the welcome bags, to offers of assistance from our citizens, the
people of Toronto are rallying together at a tremendous pace to get people
excited about our city."

Corporate sponsors of the 'Toronto: You Belong Here on Victoria Day'
celebrations include Air Canada, Avis Rent, Bankers Business Gifts, the
Downtown Yonge Street Business Improvement Association, Pizza Pizza,
McDonald's, Roots the Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel and Telus.
