Media Advisory: Advocate to release progress report on children and youth|
| || ||
While the City of Toronto has made progress over the past six years in
improving the well-being of children and youth, provincial underfunding leaves
many families still at risk.
That's the conclusion of the Annual Report of the City's Children and Youth
Advocate, Councillor Olivia Chow, to be released tomorrow. The report assesses
the successes and failures in better serving children and youth during the
first two terms of the Council of the new City of Toronto.
Thursday, August 28
City Kids Child Care Centre (under construction), 34 Bathurst St. (at Front St.)
Councillor Chow will be joined at the news conference by Councillor Joe
Pantalone (Ward 19 Trinity-Spadina).
The location was chosen to highlight provincial underfunding. The construction
of City Kids Child Care Centre - which opens in October - was funded entirely
by the City of Toronto because the Province of Ontario has dramatically cut its
operating and capital support to child care. The new centre is a symbol of City
investment in children's services.
