We are here to help: Mayor Lastman

Mayor Mel Lastman today offered assistance to Prince Edward Island and Nova
Scotia, as the Maritime Provinces struggled to recover from the devastating
impact of Hurricane Juan.

"PEI has come to Toronto's aide not once but twice in the last two terms,"
Lastman said, referring to the Island's offer of snowplows in 1999 and mussels
in 2003. " It's our turn to return the kindness."

Lastman said he has contacted PEI and that the governments there and in Nova
Scotia are still assessing their needs. Until a request for assistance is made,
the Mayor said City staff will be taking stock of available equipment and
working on a plan for deployment.

"At the very least they know they have a friend in Toronto," Lastman said. "Our
thoughts are with them."
