City's Task Force to hold additional public hearings on new property assessment and tax policy
  
Toronto City Council's Task Force on Assessment and Tax Policy will hold
additional public hearings on Monday, July 6 and Tuesday, July 7 to give
interested citizens of Toronto an opportunity to speak about the new property
assessment and tax policy system recently implemented by the provincial
government.

At the meetings the Task Force will consider comprehensive reports from the
City's Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer which deal with six major topics.

The first meeting will be held on Monday, July 6, 1998, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30
p.m.; from 1:30 to 5:00 p.m.; and from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. in Committee Room A at
Metro Hall, 55 John Street. The Task Force will consider reports on: (1)
residential property class; (2) multi-residential property class; and (3)
low-income seniors and disabled persons.

The second meeting will be held on Tuesday, July 7, 1998, from 9:30 a.m. to
12:30 p.m.; from 1:30 to 5:00 p.m.; and from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. in Committee
Room A at Metro Hall, 55 John Street. The Task Force will consider reports on:
(1) commercial/industrial property class; (2) charities and similar
organizations; and (3) tax shifts.

Copies of executive summaries of the reports will be available for pickup at
the Secretariat Section, City Clerk's Division, 4th Floor, West Tower, Toronto
City Hall on Monday, June 29, 1998.

People wishing to speak to the Task Force at either one of these meetings must
notify the Secretary at 392-7031 by 4:00 p.m. on Friday, July 3, 1998 to advise
which topic they are interested in so that their name can be listed on the
appropriate day. Speakers must limit their comments to five minutes so that
others may share their views.

People may also submit written comments to the Assessment and Tax Policy Task
Force by mail or fax.
