Healthy City Neighbourlies Award honours community innovation

Applications are now available for Toronto Healthy City Office's 7th annual
Neighbourlies Award in honour of community initiatives that help make Toronto a
great place to live, work and play. Up to 10 awards will be presented to
community groups during Healthy City Week, September 12 to 20, 1998.

Each award consists of a cheque for $1,000 and a commemorative certificate in
recognition of creative community projects that aim to improve the health of
Toronto neighbourhoods and quality of life for residents. Neighbourhood
projects across the new City of Toronto are eligible to apply. The deadline for
application is August 14, 1998.

Past Neighbourlies Award-winning projects include arts and theatre programs for
street youth, conversions of city plots into community gardens, co-op food
programs, studio and exhibition space for artists with special needs and
conversions of public housing projects into tenant-run housing. Click here to find out more about past
winners.

To receive an application for a Neighbourlies Award, or for more information on
Healthy City Week, call the City of Toronto Healthy City Office, at (416)
392-1140. Applications may also be picked up from your local library or civic
centre.
