First Nations Day at Scarborough Civic Centre
  
The Scarborough Civic Centre will host First Nations Awareness Day on Tuesday,
June 16, 1998 from 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Traditional drumming, dancing, Aboriginal crafts and food, information tables
and guest speakers are among the activities planned for the event.

Elder Lillian McGregor will officially open the event, followed by the
traditional drum group - Eagle Hart. Rodney Bobiwash, historian and Executive
Director of the Native Canadian Centre of Toronto, and other speakers will
discuss the significance and relationship between First Nations and Scarborough.

A group of Aboriginal students between the ages of six and 12 years will
perform traditional native dances in costumes designed and created by the
students.

First Nations Awareness Day is made possible through the support of the City of
Toronto's Economic Development Division, Cultural and Tourism Division, Toronto
District School Board - Scarborough region and the First Nations Committee.
