Cirque du Soleil coming to Toronto’s Port Lands
TEDCO-owned site to become seasonal home for newest Cirque du Soleil touring show this summer

The Toronto Economic Development Corporation (TEDCO) today announced that Cirque du Soleil will perform in Toronto this summer from August 9 to September 2 on a TEDCO-owned site in the Port Lands area.

Cirque du Soleil has brought wonder and delight to close to 60 million spectators in more than 100 cities on five continents. In 2007, Cirque du Soleil will present 15 shows simultaneously throughout the world.

Cirque du Soleil will raise their Grand Chapiteau at Cherry and Commissioners Streets in the Port Lands area. The 2007 touring show titled “Kooza” was announced this morning at a news conference at the Montreal site of the touring show. The show features more than two hours of family-oriented entertainment that Cirque du Soleil has been famous for over the last two decades.

“The inclusion of Toronto on Cirque du Soleil’s touring plan is tremendous,” said Toronto Mayor David Miller. “Cirque’s international reputation for artistic excellence and true family entertainment will be a welcome addition to Toronto’s cultural community this summer. In addition to being a great attraction for Toronto families, it is yet another great reason to visit Toronto this summer.”

TEDCO President and CEO, Jeffrey Steiner was enthusiastic about Cirque du Soleil coming to a TEDCO-owned site in the Port Lands area. “TEDCO is pleased to host Cirque du Soleil this summer. It will be a tremendous boost to the Port Lands area and will allow Torontonians and visitors to see the incredible potential of this area as it becomes revitalized.”
