Aecon Construction Retained for TEDCO’s Corus Entertainment Building
The following news release is being distributed on behalf of the Toronto Economic Development Corporation.

Following a competitive process, the Toronto Economic Development Corporation (TEDCO) announced today that Aecon Group Inc. has been retained to construct the new home of Corus Entertainment on Toronto’s waterfront. The more than $100 million project being developed by TEDCO with input from the City of Toronto, Corus Entertainment and Waterfront Toronto, will kick start revitalization of the area south of Queen’s Quay Blvd., near the Jarvis St. slip.

The project includes an approximately 500,000 square foot office building and broadcast centre, a continuous public promenade along the water’s edge and retail space. The building design will be Gold-certified under Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) standards in keeping with TEDCO’s goal of supporting sustainable development initiatives and environmental best-practices. Once complete, TEDCO’s Corus building will become Corus Entertainment’s Toronto headquarters, housing approximately 1,300 knowledge workers in the media and entertainment sector.

“This development will be a catalyst for other major employers and institutions to play a role in making our city’s waterfront a thriving business and cultural destination,” said Jeffrey Steiner, President and CEO, TEDCO. “We look forward to working with Aecon and our other partners on this exciting project.”

Aecon Group Inc. is Canada’s largest publicly traded construction and infrastructure development company. Aecon and its subsidiaries provide services to private and public sector clients throughout Canada and internationally. Aecon’s shares are listed for trading on the Toronto Stock Exchange under the symbol ARE. In addition to the TEDCO-Corus Project, other significant LEED projects Aecon Buildings is currently completing include the Bell Creekbank Office for Bell Canada, the Union Gas Burlington Office/Warehouse facility, and the New Town Hall Building for the Town of Innisfil.

During the past several months, TEDCO completed pre-development work at the site, including environmental and archeological reviews. Demolition of old structures has been undertaken in recent weeks and Aecon is scheduled to begin construction on the project this month. It is expected to be completed by fall of 2009.

The Toronto Economic Development Corporation is the principal redevelopment corporation for the City of Toronto and a major landowner across the city. TEDCO is focused on commercial, industrial and mixed-use projects working together with both public and private sector partners.
