Media Advisory: Talent show to help launch City’s United Way fundraising campaign

The Toronto Public Service will launch its 2007 campaign for the United Way of Greater Toronto on Nathan Phillips Square. City employees will compete in a talent show called City Singers. Celebrity guests/judges include Michael “Pinball” Clemons of the Toronto Argonauts and Tyrone Gabriel of the Nylons, among others.

Date: Tuesday, September 11
Time: Noon to 2 p.m.
Location: Nathan Phillips Square, Toronto City Hall, 100 Queen St. W.

The City Singers contest will begin at 12:30 p.m., after the opening comments by City Manager Shirley Hoy and Frances Lankin, President and Chief Executive Officer of the United Way of Greater Toronto. Erin Davis and Mike Cooper of CHFI radio will emcee the event. The celebrity guests will judge the musical performances and announce three winners. Members of Toronto Fire Services and Emergency Medical Services will present a barbecue on the square as part of the campaign launch. Everyone is welcome at this event.

Each year, members of the Toronto Public Service collectively raise about $1 million as part of the United Way of Greater Toronto’s campaign to fund social programs and strengthen neighbourhoods across Toronto.
