City of Toronto appoints Ulli S. Watkiss, City Clerk

Today, City Council approved the appointment of Ulli S. Watkiss to the position
of City Clerk. Ms Watkiss will be joining the City of Toronto on Tuesday,
September 4, 2001.

"Ms Watkiss brings with her a wealth of knowledge and is a practical,
big-picture, problem solver and strategic thinker," said Deputy Mayor Case
Ootes. "Her expertise will provide a solid base to continue building the
City's future."

Ms Watkiss was the City of Vancouver's City Clerk from 1998 to the present and
prior to that she was the City Clerk for the City of Edmonton for almost ten
years. A native of Toronto,
Ms Watkiss received her political science degree from the University of
Waterloo, and a law degree from Osgoode Hall Law School before pursuing her MBA
from the Athabasca University, Centre for Innovative Management.

"Ms Watkiss' extensive background, education and experience, particularly her
familiarity with running a Clerk's department and city council in a large
municipality, will prove invaluable to the City of Toronto," said Lorenzo
Berardinetti, Chair of the City's Administrative Committee.

Ms Watkiss returns to Toronto with considerable expertise in the management of
information and records, council meeting management, a thorough understanding
of the privacy laws, elections, protocol, and administrative support of
councillors' offices. Council and City staff look forward to engaging Ms
Watkiss' experience delivering E-government systems, building strong
cross-functional teams and facilitating key strategic and operations plans.

Ms Watkiss enjoys outdoor pursuits including sailing and running marathons,
including the Toronto marathon in 1996.
